Chinese Word: 很 hěn — very

 

The Mandarin Chinese word for “Is”, “Are”, “Was”, “Were”, “Will be”, (to be) is 很 – hěn.

In Chinese, “to be” works

Differently.

很 – hěn can mean “is, am, are, was, were, will be” for all subjects, but only when referring to an adjective, like “I am hungry”

It also can mean “very”.

Here are some examples of how to use this word:

  • 我很累. Wǒ hěn lèi. – I am tired.
  • 我很开心. Wǒ hěn kāixīn. – I am happy.
  • 我很不喜欢她. Wǒ hěn bù xǐhuān tā. – I really don’t like her.
  • 我很好, 你呢? Wǒ hěn hǎo, nǐ ne? – I am very well, how about you?
